The Quran

Scribes Aside

Islam is a complex and confusing religion, only complicated more by the contradictions of the Quran and the teachings of Muhammad. Not only do the holy scriptures of Muslims contain many errors concerning the people, places, historical and chronological events in the Old and New Testaments, but its 114 Suras, or chapters, weren’t written down by Muhammad at all.

Because of Muhammad’s illiteracy, his followers wrote down his revelations as they heard him recite the verses. Then after Muhammad’s death, his scribes translated his teachings into Arabic and put them in what is known today as the Quran.

Coincidentally, 60 to 70 percent of Muslims who are not Arabs cannot read the Quran, even today. Only a handful of Muhammad’s followers have actually read and understand his teachings.

The Word of Allah

Despite this fact, the Quran is considered by all Muslims to be Allah’s word. It is considered a holy book that is respected and revered by every follower. It doesn’t seem to matter to Muslims that the Islamic scripture is confusing, repetitious and contains many contradictions that are hard to explain.

Far from inspired, the Quran was revised frequently by Muhammad’s scribes to justify his behavior and questionable acts. Muhammad often used his so-called prophetic revelations to give acceptability to his sexually immoral acts. He covered his sin, created deception and fostered a doctrine of the demonic in the name of holy writ.

Even though Muslim scholars claim that the god of the Quran is the God of the Bible, the two scriptures bear no resemblance to each other.

Safa, the author of Inside Islam, cites the opinion of the Muslim scholar Ib-Ishaq. He details the chronological order of the Quran in this way: “Creation; Adam and Eve; Noah and his issue; Hud; Salih; Abraham; Lot; Job; Shuayb; Joseph; Moses; Ezekiel; Elijah; Elisha; Samuel; David; Solomon; Sheba; Isaiah; al-Khidr; Daniel; Hananiah; Azariah; Mishael and Ezra; Alexander; Zecharia and John; the family of Imran and Jesus, son of Mary; the Companion of the Cave; Jonah; the Three Messengers; Samson; George.”

You might be wondering, like I did, who Hud is. How about Alexander? And Salih, Sheba, Shuayb and al-Khidr don’t look familiar.

What about the Companion of the Cave? Who’s that? The Three Messengers? And who is George? The Quran is hardly a mirror image of the Holy Bible, the Word of God.

No Salvation

Let’s look for a minute at some other glaring problems with the teachings of Muhammad which are recorded in the Quran. If you ask most Christians about sin, they will tell you that God has forgiven them and put their sin as far as the east is from the west. But if you ask a Muslim the same question, you’re likely to get a shoulder shrug and a quick response of “Who knows?”

There is in fact no promise of salvation for the Muslim. There isn’t even the word salvation in the Quran.

Sura 13:22-23 says, “Those who avert evil with good theirs shall be the ultimate abode, Gardens of Eden which they shall enter; and those who were good to their parents and wives and their seed.
